St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church
St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church was built in 1961 in New Orleans, LA (Algiers) and the original front entrance canopy underwent an earlier renovation in 1988. Cockfield Jackson Architects completed a subsequent major renovation in late 2019, removing the existing canopy and adding a completely new front entrance and redesigning and renovating the vestibule.
The project undertaken by Cockfield Jackson Architects reused existing foundational elements to offset costs and focused on providing continuity between the exterior and the interior spaces. The new entrance was designed in the same neo-gothic style as the interior, utilizing a highly detailed cast stone cladding to resemble limestone. The new addition included custom-made entry doors and transoms, railings, light fixtures, ornamentation and statuary. The vestibule was expanded to permanently house the baptistry and improve flow. The restrooms were also renovated and updated to utilize the existing space more efficiently.
