St. John the Baptist wins AIA LA Honor Award

St John Church

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Addition and Renovations, wins AIA LA Honor Award,

Shreveport, LA, USA – October 16, 2011  The St. John the Baptist Catholic Church project designed by Cockfield Jackson Architects received one of two AIA LA Honor Awards this past week at the annual AIA Louisiana Design Conference. There were approximately 50 projects submitted at the conference which took place at the Shreveport Convention Center. Architects and design professionals from all over the state gathered for continuing education seminars and lectures on current design trends. Two honor awards and seven merit awards were given by a jury headed by Lawrence Speck, FAIA from Austin, TX. Mr. Speck is a highly renowned architect, author, and academician, and has won numerous design awards and serves on many national panels and committees. His lecture at the conference centered on the importance of architecture as it affects people’s lives. His comments regarding the jury’s selection of the St. John project for this award reflected this renovation being a prime example of design through architecture affecting the users, as well as the architect’s attention to detailing and the seamless renovations to the existing church.
