Independence Park Main Library

This main public library for the EBR Parish Library System includes adult, teen and children’s collection areas, numerous technology stations, a large public meeting room for 283 people, an accessible roof garden, drive through window for checkouts and returns, shipping and receiving loading dock, administration and staff areas, and support spaces. The site design features a central plaza with seating areas, an outdoor stage, landscaping, and a central water feature splash pad play area. The building is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification with features such as light colored roof materials, a roof rainwater collection system, roof garden areas, roof photovoltaic panels, energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems, landscaping and bioswale site areas, construction waste management requirements, and construction requirements for the use of regional and “green” sustainable products. Major exterior materials include various zinc metal wall panels, St. Joe brick, decorative faced concrete block, and aluminum curtain wall with energy efficient glazing, This project was an architectural joint venture of The Library Design Collaborative.
