Central, Louisiana
4,340 SF

Dow Louisiana Federal Credit Union selected Baton Rouge Based Cockfield Jackson Architects to design a new 4,340 square foot branch credit union in Central, Louisiana. The Client desired 6 teller stations, 3 workstations for member services representatives, a manager’s office, conference room, support spaces, three drive-up teller stations and an ATM. The interior design response was a playful arrangement of colorful wall and floor accents. The focal point of the design is a water wall that can be seen from the front door. Aspects of water can be seen in the carpet as well as the metallic wavy ceiling. Three interactive customer stations flank each side of the water wall. The drive-up teller lanes also utilize the interactive customer stations and are located under an arched copper canopy. The arched canopy detail was repeated as shading devices at the windows.This credit union branch includes six interactive video teller stations surrounding a central check writing desk, a custom copper logo water feature, modular staff workstations, children’s waiting area with built-in gaming kiosk, manager’s office, conference room, support spaces, a remote teller room, three interactive video teller drive-through lanes, and an ATM / night depository drive-through lane.

Baton Rouge, LA, USA – September 16, 2012 – Akheil Shah and his team of students from ITT-Tech won the award for structural ingenuity at the Baton Rouge CANstruction event held downtown at the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. CANstruction is an annual charity event that takes place across the nation. Local design professionals, Baton Rouge architects, and Students formed teams to design and build sculptures out of canned goods in a friendly competition to raise awareness for hunger. The sculptures were on display at the LASM from September 15, 2012 until September 20, 2012 at which point they were disassembled and food items donated to The Greater Baton Food Bank. AIA Baton Rouge, along with LASM and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, in spite of Hurricane Issac, were able to come together to host the event for a second time. Inspired by Dr. Seuss this years theme is Green Eggs and Can. The design teams, their entries and awards follow;

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Additions and Renovations recieves 2012 IIDA reconigtion award in the Renovation/Historic Preservation category

Baton Rouge, LA, USA – September 10, 2012 –The Renovations and Additions project at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church has received a 2012 Recognition Award from the International Interior Design Association Delta Regional Chapter in the Renovation/Historic Preservation category. The church, originally built in 1907, had undergone several renovations over the years that obscured much of the original interior character. Based on photographs obtained from the church’s archives, the interior was completely restored with new beaded board vaulted ceilings detailed with painted bandings and trim accents, gold leaf column capitals, and new pine wood flooring. The building committee and the architects worked very closely with Dafford & Chigoy Fine Arts, LLC to select the color palette. Dafford & Chigoy completed the interior painting of the church and also refurbished the existing altars, pews, and Stations of the Cross. The interior lighting package included totally retrofitting the existing interior pendant fixtures and required fabrication of new fixtures to match the existing and provided new concealed lighting to accent the sanctuary platform, three altars, and the ambo. New millwork pieces in the entry area, designed for the St. John statue and ambry oils, reflect the detailing of the existing altars. A new confessional and new pipe organ cabinet is wood paneled with details utilizing the gothic inspired arch. A new permanent baptistery and font were designed using Macedonia limestone and colored mosaic tile. The exterior renovation features all new lap siding, new diamond shaped roof shingles, and a new annex which houses the vesting sacristy, new restrooms and a small meeting room. The crowning feature is a new steeple that was designed using old photographs to match the original steeple that was destroyed by a hurricane in the 1930s.

In addition to the IIDA Award, Cockfield Jackson Architects also recently received a 2012 Award for Religious Architecture Renovations from Faith and Form magazine and the Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture. The general contractor, Faulk and Meek General Contractors, received a 2012 Alliant Build America Award from the Association of General Contractors who recognized the project as the Best Renovation Project in America under $10M

Livingston Parish Main Library
Livingston Parish, Louisiana
1700 sq. ft.

Cockfield Jackson Architects, in a joint venture with Labarre Architects, designed this new 17,000 sf. main library for the Livingston Parish Library System. The main library design was unique in comparison to the recent new branch library projects within the system (also designed by Cockfield Jackson) in order to distinguish it as the main branch of the Livingston Parish System. The building entry sequence begins with a spacious entry lobby which accesses the public Meeting Room that seats 100, restrooms and entrance into the library space. The Periodical and Newspaper reading area features a vaulted ceiling and indirect lighting with exposed steel trusses, with panoramic a view to the north into beautiful landscaped areas. The Children’s Area is identified by a playful entry portal, and is named Kid’s World. The Adult Area is accessed thru an art display area, and is terminated by the Teen Areas which is named Teen Zone and identified with colorful, lighted signage overhead. The facility includes a Genealogy Room, a Computer Lab and private small group Study Rooms.

Baton Rouge, LA, USA – June 19, 2012 – Cockfield Jackson Architects staff took a site visit today to see the continuing progress of the new Independence Park Main Library . The steel components for the new three story structure, which began erection in May, is nearly halfway completed. This is a big step in the construction process because it is the first visible component of the building. Until now, all of the work has been underground, so for the last 6 months it would appear nothing has been done. In reality, site utilities are in place, approximately 700 wood piles have been driven into the ground, the stell structure is almost finished, and the concrete floors are scheduled to be poured and day now.
